Mother's Day

The photograph shows she’s as lovely now as she was on her wedding day. Three sisters, my mother in the middle. Each of them smiles. But my mother’s smile is radiant. It is beautiful.

Her honeymoon in Paris, elegant in a headscarf and red raincoat, a bunch of spring flowers in her hands. She smiles again for my father’s camera; youthful innocence, love and such hope.

Whenever I see irises I smile - like she smiles in every picture I have of her: daughter, wife and mother.

I wish we could be with you today.
